Greeting from the President
Welcome
to our home page.
Sumiko Consultants (Sumicon)
was founded in 1963 by a major non-ferrous metal mining and
smelting company, Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd.. The company's
activities in the early years were limited to mineral resources
and related sectors relying on the technological and engineering
knowledge which had been fostered in the four century long
history of the parent company. In recent years, however,
Sumicon
has considerably diversified its activities to include civil
engineering and other fields which are concerned with the
earth's lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere.
In the context of economic growth and human welfare, we have been
interested in development of natural resources and construction
of facilities and structures for the benefit of the community.
Recently, much publicity has been given to the fact that the
natural environment has deteriorated due to man's activities to
sustain economic growth. Therefore, it is also our deep concern
to protect the natural environment against further deterioration
and to restore areas that have suffered from environmental
damage. To tackle these problems, a thorough understanding of
the earth is indispensable and the practical application of such
understanding is our philosophy. We are deeply committed to all
aspects of resources development, construction of surface and
underground structures, protection against natural hazards and
environmental conservation and restoration.
In the international scene it is desirable that technological and
economic exchanges between countries be on a reciprocal basis
and result in equal and mutual social progress. As a consulting
firm "Sumicon"
is assisting a number of countries to achieve sound development
through Official Development Aid projects, the objectives of
which are to support the independence of these countries, to
sustain their economic growth and to improve their welfare.
We believe that the role of geosciences oriented consulting firms is
becoming more important than ever with increasing environmental
constraints being placed on human activities. Our company has
provided its services to central and local governments as well
as to various sectors of industry in Japan. It is our strong
desire to contribute to national and international development,
taking account of environmental conservation, on the basis of
our geoscientific knowledge accumulated through many years of
experience.
